Has anyone seen this for that Mai promo-comic yet?

“When an earnest young man starts vying for her attention, Mai wonders if he is her ticket out of the dumps after her break up with Fire Lord Zuko. Little does she know, this fellow has a secret that will point her to a destination she least expects—danger!”

ALRIGHT, AS MUCH AS I KINDA FANGIRLED OVER THE SEARCH’S PREVIEW, CAN WE TALK ABOUT HOW MUCH OF A FANFIC IT IS SO FAR.

LIKE, HOW MANY FANFICS DO YOU THINK THEY READ TO WRITE THIS THING LOLLOL.

Like, I feel like I’ve read the scenario 500+ times.

-Zuko’s mom is FOUND IN REMOTE FIRE NATION VILLAGE. √ (COME ON.)

-Zuko calls friends to help find Mommy. √

-Zuko has Iroh watch Fire Nation while he goes to get Mommy. √

-Obvious build up to Azula and Zuko life-changing field trip to which they make amends through Ursa’s merits and their coming together for a common goal. √

AND WHY IS TOPH KICKED OUT OF THIS WTF I LOVE TOPH, NOT COOL.

AND IS EVERYONE JUST GONNA PRETEND THEY DIDN’T TRY TO FRIGGING MURDER ZUKO LAST WEEK ARE WE JUST PRETENDING THAT NEVER HAPPENED.

Overall though, I do sort of like and I’m willing to give Gene Yang a clean slate with this and not judge him with his past atrocities..

DON’T SCREW THIS UP, YANG, THE FANDOM HAS BEEN WAITING FOR SIX YEARS, YOU CANNOT AFFORD TO.

is no one going to talk about how demented this art is like what

ZUKO’S SCAR LOOKS LIKE IT’S MELTING OFF HIS FACE AND MAI LOOKS LIKE THE MAI FROM JACKIE DIAZ’S STORY

(if you don’t know who that is, consider yourself spared.)

MAUREEN!!!! DO YOU EVER CRY 'CAUSE THE PROMISE??

Anonymous

If you mean, do I cry because of the fact that I have to accept it as canon even though it overrules all the character development of Zuko and Aang throughout the series as well as making the rest of the characters in “the gaang” look like shallow, heartless, bloodthirsty, fair weather friends, then yes, daily.

THE PROMISE FANDOM ANSWERS HAR HUR HARRR "^___^

Anonymous

OMG DUDE, WHY COULDN’T YOU JUST SAY AVATAR, THIS IS GONNA GET UGLY. DOES THE PROMISE EVEN HAVE A FANDOM LOL?

BUT WHATEVES, OKAY LOL.

*please note, this isn’t for the TV show avatar, then the answers would be completely different, since this is The Promise where everyone pissed me off, here it tis:

Favorite Character: Suki. She’s the only one with a brain who acts in character and doesn’t want Zuko to die.

Least favorite character: Gene Yang  Dude, pretty much everyone lol. Aang, Katara, Zuko, Toph, Sokka. They all were pushing my buttons to the max.

5 favorite ships: SNEERS X KORI OMGGG. No, I’m kidding. Idk, Maiko was crap in this, Mai left Zuko while he was like on the brink of an anxiety attack so that sucked, Katara was all edging Aang on to kill their bff so that wasn’t cool, Sukka barely happened. Okay, yeah then. Sukka.

Character I find most attractive: It’s still Zuko lollol Promise or not

Character I would be best friends with: Suki, she’s the only one who’d be concerned if I were to die.

Random Thought: …why is this canon

Unpopular opinion: Idk if I have one. It’s pretty unanimous that it wasn’t good and yeah…… I love the art like everyone else so…idk. I don’t think I have one xD

Canon OTP: Sukka, they were the only one not “giving me oogies”, if you will.

Non-canon OTP: The one where the gaang actually shows concern for their friend’s death

Most badass character: I thought Penga was kicking some butt tbh

Pairing I’m not a fan of: In The Promise? Everything.

Characters I feel the writers screwed up on: …

all.

of.

THEM.

so friggen bad.

Favorite friendship: OMG, ALL THE FRIENDSHIPS WERE RUINED IN THIS. THAT WAS THE WORST PART. IN A:TLA I LOVED THE GAANG’S GROUP, FAMILY FRIENDSHIP DYNAMIC THING AS A WHOLE, BUT IT WAS SHIT IN THIS. WHATEVER HAPPENED TO NO MAN LEFT BEHIND? THEY ALL SCOFFED AT ZUKO’S DEATH 200% DONE.

Character I want to be adopted by: Suki and Suki alone because the rest would laugh at my death.

I’M SO SORRY THIS TURNED INTO HATE AGAIN, BUT GREYFACE ASKED FOR IT LOLLOLLOL.

LOL! Please quit with the bullshit, you just wanted Katara and the gaang to support Zuko over Aang because you're a crazy ass Zuko fangirl that cares about no one but Zuko.

You're delusional if you say you could've written a better fanfic.

Anonymous

Yes.

I am a delusional, psychotic Zuko fangirl, I got the memo.

8 months ago on September 27th, 2012 | J | 0 notes
So in other words, you'd just turn the story into "Zuko's story: Starring Zuko and only Zuko. Fuck Everyone Else" Yeah, you're certainly not a crazy Zuko fangirl.

Anonymous

That is not what I said at all.

I’m so done.

I just told you I’d keep pretty much the same story, but ax out the whole promise thing because that was stupid. Yeah, I’m a fan of Zuko, but not like this psychotic ZUKOoO C@N D0 nO wRoNGGg idiot.

Is it that hard to process that I was annoyed by the apathy the gaang showed toward’s Zuko dying.

Heck, I could’ve dealt with the promise, if they all showed some concern.

And, if they were all shrugging at Sokka, Toph, Katata, or Aang’s death, I’d be equally pissed, I guarantee you that.

i dont get why people are flipping out at you because you thought katara, along with the rest of the gaang, should have shown concern about the possibility of zuko dying. the last time i checked the show ended with them all hanging out and y'know being friends lmao. it's not odd to wonder why none of them cared about their friend being killed. and i also dont understand the notion that if one likes the character of zuko that it automatically means one likes zuko/katara. so odd to me.

Anonymous

THANK YOU.

Someone understands my points! Actually most people do, but…

But really, now I’m being called out as psychotic and crazed like holy crap, people.

xD

LOL, looking through the tag, you and maybe a few others are the only one bitching. WAH! EVERYONE"S BEING MEAN TO POOR ZUKO! WAH! HOW COULD KATARA SUPPORT AANG OVER ZUKO?! WAH! I HATE TOPH AND SOKKA! STOP BEING AANG"S FRIEND AND BE ZUKO"S!! WAH! WAH!

Anonymous

This is getting so exhausting, omg.

I’m going to say this one more time.

Zuko was going to die.

Aang was sad about his airbending morals.

DEATH

AIRBENDING MORALS

DEATH

AIRBENDING MORALS.

It’s not a matter of choosing Aang over Zuko it’s a matter of setting your priorities straight. If I got a phone call from a friend saying “____ is in a tough time with a horrible decision to make, you need to help ____!” but then I got another phone call saying “I know you’ve been fighting with ________, but ______ could die and ______ really needs your help!”

I’d be over the second friend’s house in a heartbeat because their life is in danger. I’d want to help my other friend with their issue too, but you know, I’d make them wait on the expense of my other friend’s life.

I thought the gaang would too, that’s the impression I got from the show anyway. Maybe I’m getting the wrong impressions.

And did you miss my explanation about how I’m pissed at the gaang’s treatment because I like them….

If you can’t see how they’re being shitty friends to Zuko, I’m really concerned about whatever friends you have.

And, dude, that’s the majority of the tag. The storm’s calmed a lot, but scroll down further it’s all headdesking.

And, how many times do I have to explain to you why I’m annoyed with Katara.

friend dying > boyfriend’s personal morals being compromised

AT LEAST THAT’S HOW ANY DECENT HUMAN BEING WITH A RESPECT FOR LIFE WOULD SEE IT.

I think I give up.

I really don’t want to flood this tag, but you people keep spamming me, holy crap.

Alright sub, how would YOU have handled The Promise and it's characters?

I really hope you’re the same person that was on Anon and I’m not being bombarded with attack here, but you asked a question, so I’ll give you an answer.

What I would’ve done with The Promise and its characters, is first, what I’d be obligated to do, is follow whatever my bosses told me to do, so I don’t know whose idea the whole let’s kill Zuko thing was, but…

Let’s just pretend I don’t have that restriction.

I would not have had the whole “promise” aspect at all. That seemed to me like pointless melodrama. We all know Aang doesn’t kill Zuko, he has a grandson in Korra, we know what happens, so there really was no reason for it. It was just to create pointless drama. So, I would’ve axed that altogether.

For the plot, I would have kept the general arguments. Those actually weren’t bad. There was a point to them that actually could come up in real life. What I wouldn’t have done is tare the gaang apart. I may’ve had them in a conflict, but not that excessively, the way The Promise did. We could’ve had the Harmony Restoration Movement, Zuko pulling out of it, and the gaang getting annoyed with him, claiming that he’d lost his marbles. Zuko could then explain to them his points, and they could’ve seen that he had legitimate concerns. The Earth King, however, wouldn’t agree as much. He could send troops in to enforce things like what happened in the actual thing, but instead of the gaang fighting Zuko, they’d go alongside him. Though, we could have Zuko still with the complications of a war and the rest being angry over that, but in the end, the fighting ceases, and they convince the Earth King of what was right.

So, what I’m getting at is, the whole thing could’ve easily been done without the senseless gaang melodrama with that stupid promise. That ruined the whole comic series. If I just watched 2.5 seasons of them all fighting with Zuko, why the hell would I want another comic series of just that? Wouldn’t it be more refreshing to see them as friends…?

I’m not bragging when I say I could’ve written a better fanfic. I have read better post-war fanfiction, MANY, better ones.

If this was a fanfic, It’d be one of those ones I lol’d at, and rolled my eyes whilst I hit the back button.

I mean, I’m not trying to take away you or anyone else’s enjoyment of the series, if you enjoyed it, good for you. I wish I could’ve. But me and most people didn’t. -shrugs-
